Pacific Northwest River

This river canyon near Joseph, Oregon catches the morning light like a sponge, but only briefly as the sun makes a quick pass over the steep terrain where shadows rule.

I can visualize Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce Tribe visiting this very spot before he led his people on an epic flight from his homeland (1877) to escape the U.S Cavalry.

Chief Joseph was a Nez Perce leader who led his tribe called the Wallowa band of Nez Perce through a treacherous time in United States history. These indigenous people were natives to the Wallowa Valley in Oregon. Chief Joseph was a powerful advocate for his people's rights to remain on their homeland.

Lessons learned along the river. . . be aware when it happens!
