Baker View from Best Road

Painted en plein air, in early afternoon light with Mt. Baker commanding its presence on a clear, sunny day. I love working in the Skagit Valley and that these enormous bulb farms keep everything rural. The valley farmers rotate crops of tulips, daffodils, hay & alfalfa, keeping thousands of acres in production every year. The Skagit River delta soil is among the deepest and richest top soils in the U.S. You get the feeling of great distance with the flat farmlands pushed up against the Cascade Mountains to the east and incredible light conditions for painting, as well.
