Big Barley Field, Rocky R Ranch

This field is nearly a mile long stretching from Davis Bay Road to the Straits of Jun de Fuca, with a view out to the Olympic Mountains, The mid afternoon light created a glow against the old barn (built 1905) along a distant edge.

Iconic in every way, to me this beautiful farm, owned by the Lea family and still farmed by the Burt family, personifies the most idyllic image of Lopez Island. Don Burt Sr built the barn in 1905, 121 years before this painting was done.
