Richardson in Morning Light

Painted en plein air from the old cannery site west of the old Richardson General Store site, on a calm morning. The salmon cannery burned down @ 100 years ago, leaving only a few stone and concrete foundation footings where I stood to paint this. Richardson General Store, burned down in 1988 and sat just below the distant ghostly tall metal fuel storage tanks and built out over the water. Part of the old dock pilings still remain. This was the "commercial" center of Lopez Island in the early part of the 20th century, with two large canneries in full operation, the general store and of course fishing fleets. The population then, was about 6000 (with lots of Chinese workers) compared to @ 2700 full time island residents in 2020.
