Liquid Air at Shark Reef
Painted en plein air at Shark Reef Sanctuary, Lopez Island on a very foggy morning in late summer, 2007. This sanctuary is an iconic hiking destination, looking west to Cattle Point Lighthouse on San Juan Island about 3 miles across the channel.
It's a marine sanctuary where sea lions and seals populate the rocks that form the reef, with dramatic tide rips providing swirling water when the tide's running. I love painting out there- this one done on a slack tide while fog ruled the light and weather.
