Idle Time, Umbria

The wild sunflowers first caught my eye as we drove from Umbertide towards Monterche, Italy. A big storm was approaching making the warm colors of the field, flowers and buildings jump-out. These buildings date back to the 12th century and cast a glow that invited further scrutiny. The sunlight had this lingering effect that permeates the whole scene. I could go back to sit here for hours, maybe with a glass of local wine, some pecorino cheese, a little prosciutto and and my sketchbook. No doubt this place has inspired many a traveller to do just that for the past 800 years.
