Soft Glow

This painting done at Zion National Park, won the Superintendents Purchase award in the 2014 plein air invitational and residess in the parks permanent collection, which features works of famous and iconic artists like Thomas Moran and Frederick Dellenbaugh among others, since 1919. I loved working on this at the river's edge at the Court of the Patriarchs in Zion canyon. The 3 figures were embarking on a hike up that rock face when I painted this. The park Superintendent's comments at the awards ceremony were "I loved the feel of this whole painting which prefectly encapsulated the colors of the canyon in fall and especially that the 3 figures not only gave a sense of scale, but personified what this great park is all about."
