Heavy smoke from wildfires near Snohomish Washington blanketed the San Juan Islands, giving western Washington "last place in the world" in air quality, on October 19, 2022, according to national weather ratings. Take that Beijing!

it didn't stop the atmosphere from providing an ethereal beauty to the San Juan Islands, making the usually blinding sunrise dissipate into a mere glow, casting an eerie reflection across the sky and water.
