About this work

Near Umbertide, Italy, this watch tower was built for Castello di Sorbello, in the year 1000, to guard against invaders traversing the Niccone Valley below. The huge Castle is across the valley on a distant hill about 10 miles from here and still in the same family (Sorbello's) since it was built.

I loved painting this in early autumn light.
