About this work
This bridge was bombed out by the Croatians in the war with Bosnia in the 1990's, in retaliation for the siege and shelling on Dubrovnik in Croatia. Through a 13 million dollar Unesco grant this 400 plus year old bridge was rebuilt with stones from the original quarry and using the old roman Arch method of construction. It was catching the early autumn afternoon sunlight perfectly when I painted it. I loved the deep shadows in the foreground that allowed a contrast for my people to be in-motion.
