Flash Point at Deadhorse

Painted en plein air at exactly sunrise at Deadhorse Point (Canyon Lands National Park) on October 8, 2019 from the visitors center. I loved how the massive mesas and table lands re-acted with the sun just as it appeared over the far distant ridges of the La Sal Mountains. Everything came together in this painting with the light, color temperatures shapes and forms. I was photographed by Anita Burger, a member of a touring "Roads Scholar" photography workshop at my easel just as I finished this painting.
