Soap Shop at Island Thyme Farm
2021
About this work
This building (ca 1920) is where all the garden herbs and natural ingredients go to be hand processed into wonderful botanical products at Island Thyme Farm, at Olga on Orcas Island. I stood under a 100 year old apple tree to paint this and was offered an apple fresh off the tree by one of the employees there. Nothing can describe the aromatic, crisp flavor from that first bite, beyond to say I was in heaven on earth out there that day. I hope this painting says that as well. The whole experience reminded me of my Grandma Clark's apple orchards and gardens in Boise, Idaho where I grew up. Unfortunately, those have fallen into ugly and wretched housing "development". I am so thankful for places like this on Orcas Island that are preserved by farmers and entrepreneurs like Eliza and Chris Morris.
